Visit by Indonesian Chinese Rianto Nurhadi and Family

Liem Sioe Liong Memorial Hall received two special visitors on 30 March. They were Indonesian Chinese Rianto Nurhadi and his younger brother Hartadi Sunjoto. With decreased mobility due to old age, the 95-year-old Rianto and his younger brother Hartadi both relied on wheelchairs and needed help getting in and out of the car. Despite their physical weakness, they insisted on visiting Liem Sioe Liong Memorial Hall in person as they could learn from the display here the selfless dedication to the hometown by many overseas Fuqing compatriots following Liem Sioe Liong. Our staff did their best to accommodate the visitors and ensured smooth passage of their wheelchairs.

After posing for a photo with the seated statue of Liem Sioe Liong in the lobby, Rianto and his family followed the guide to view the exhibitions with great interest. Upon seeing project experienced personally, Rianto fondly recalled some details. From his narration, everyone felt as if he had returned to the high-spirited era when he and Liem participated in the development of their hometown.

The "Water Diversion" section in Hall 3 contains one precious old photo of Rianto and Liem in front of the water diversion tunnel. The photo was taken in 1992 when Rianto accompanied Liem to inspect the Yidu Diversion Project. Gazing at the old photo, Rianto happily asked to be pictured in front of it. With head up and body straight, his pride was beyond words.

Rianto, whose ancestors were from Niufeng Village, Shapu Town in Fuqing, was born in Malang, Indonesia. He is the founder of Indoprima Group. In his early days, Rianto responded to Liem's call of "unity, hometown loving and development", was a vice president of the International Association of Fuqing Clansmen and actively participated in hometown economic development and social welfare courses. In addition to HKD 500,000 in donation to the Rongqiao Foundation and RMB 830,000 to the Minjiang River Diversion Project, he donated on multiple occasions to Tianen Primary School in Shapu Town. In 1992, Rianto founded the solely owned Fujian Guanliang Auto Parts Co., Ltd in Rongqiao Development Zone to support the development of his hometown.

Witnessing what he said and did during the visit, our staff were deeply impressed by the qualities of the older generation of Fuqing compatriots from overseas. They were hardworking, down to earth and profoundly patriotic. Before leaving, Rianto gave the staff a thumbs up and said the exhibition was excellent.
